Iran Claims Assault on American Facility in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Military Operations.
Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a "massive" and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is unclear and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have intercepted missiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on Iran carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the government.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with high efficiency and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.
It said wreckage fell on a populated district in the capital, causing some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
